Who needs Occupational Therapy Assessment

At our paediatric clinic, we offer specialised Occupational Therapy (OT) assessments designed to give you a comprehensive understanding of your child’s sensory-motor profile and how it impacts their emotional regulation. Our goal is to provide insights that will help support your child both at home and in school, ensuring they can develop into independent learners and feel emotionally secure within their family and peer groups.

Why an OT Assessment?

Our assessments provide a deep dive into your child's sensory-motor system and how it affects their behaviour, emotional regulation, and ability to function in daily life. This can include how they interact with peers, manage classroom expectations, and express their needs. By understanding these sensory processing patterns, we can make tailored recommendations to support their emotional well-being and functional success in both the home and school environments.

How Can the Assessment Help?

  • Improved School Experience: We'll work to ensure that your child receives the necessary support to feel understood and included at school. This could involve recommendations for specific classroom strategies, accommodations, or access to additional learning resources.
  • Home and Family: The assessment also helps parents understand how to help their child manage emotional regulation at home. Whether it's navigating sibling relationships or creating a calm and positive family atmosphere, the information we provide is designed to empower parents to better support their child’s needs.

Types of Assessments

We offer two types of Assessments, tailored to the unique needs of each child:

1. Assessment Type 1: Standardized Assessments for Learning Support
This assessment is for children who require standardized testing to access additional learning resources or supports, such as technology or handwriting waivers. This is particularly useful for children who need documented results to apply for learning support services.

2. Assessment Type 2: Sensory Profile and Emotional Regulation
This assessment is designed for children who feel unsupported or misunderstood by their teachers and peers. It’s ideal for children who struggle to express their needs, feel left out, or find it difficult to remain regulated in social and learning environments. This comprehensive evaluation will look at how your child’s sensory processing affects their emotional regulation and ability to function in their daily life.

Comprehensive Reports & Follow-Up

After either assessment, you will receive a detailed report that includes:

  • A clear explanation of your child's sensory-motor profile
  • How their sensory processing impacts emotional regulation at home and school
  • Practical, individualised recommendations for parents, teachers, and caregivers to support the child in feeling understood and capable
  • Guidance on fostering independence in learning, social interactions, and emotional expression

Follow-Up Support: After the assessment, follow-up sessions are available the frequence can be discussed with your therapist to ensure that your child continues to progress and thrive. However, your child must attend an initial assessment before follow-up sessions can commence
